A visit to the Ortman Family Vineyards tasting room

At least a year ago, Mitch and I had dinner at a great restaurant in one of my favorite local hotels. It’s a seafood restaurant called Catch and it’s located in the Hotel Casa del Mar in Santa Monica (beachfront, of course). Sometimes when we go to nice restaurants we like to ask the waiter for a suggestion on the wine, since they usually know better than we do what the wines are like. Our fantastic waiter (who had an equa… Continue

Petite Sirah review

By James The Wine Guy
Ortman Family Wittstrom Vineyard Paso Robles Petite Sirah – 2006 – 9.0 - James Meléndez / Jaime Patricio Meléndez

Paso Robles is showing consistent high quality wines. This wine has a beautiful structure encapsulating honeyed and herbaceous notes with noticeable acid and finishing with scents of cedar and fallen leaves.

I love the Ortman 2006 Fiddlestix vineyard Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir. Have you got more of this wine?

That is great Thank you. My wife Amy and I are having our first charity Christmas Party this Saturday and of course we will be featuring The Ortman Family Wines. They are always a hit. I will let you know how it goes.
P.S. it is 12 degrees here I hope it is warm in CA.

aw...thanks! Yeah, we're still enjoying 80 degree weather but it won't be for long. The kids both just started pre-school (not the same class, of course), so that's been fun.

Rino has been off all summer recovering from ACL surgery and doesn't have to go back until October. I made him go out to Sonoma to help out some wineries (my uncles hook-ups) with harvest. He'll be out there a total of 2 1/2 weeks (only 1 week to go). He totally misses the kids but I told him that he's doing it for their future (ok... our future). He needs some winery experience on his resume so we can move out there some day!

Hope all is well!
