Ortman Wine Lounge

I read this and laughed out loud because I have been thinking the same thing lately. I watched my dad crack a Bud Light after work every night & I am not afraid to call myself a Bud Girl.

However, I see American Ale on the new packaging and it makes me cringe. Let's call it what it is...one of the only beers I can drink in a can be it at a tailgate party, Harry's Bar in Pismo Beach or sitting on the couch watching football. And even I have to drink an awful lot of them to get a hangover.

Here's an excerpt from a post I found on NOLA.com (while researching for our "work" trip to New Orleans next month)~

Bud American?? Ale

As I sat there watching an exciting 1st, bit of a 3rd, and 4th quarter of yesterday's Saints/Bucs game, I noticed one commercial over and over. Being forcefully drilled into the viewer in a way that only one beer company can do, ads for Budweiser American Ale kept smacking me in the face during just about every commercial break.
What kept making me chuckle each time this commercial aired, however, is that they chose September 2008, just a couple months after being bought out by the Belgian/Brazilian juggernaut that is InBev, to launch a beer called American Ale. Whether it's just bad timing, or them pandering to those that clung to Bud after Miller and Coors were bought out by foreign companies years ago is anyone's guess. What's next, Guinness American Stout? Stella Ameritois? Coronamerican?

So in response to the thousands of airings of the commercial during this football game and during all the rest of the season, here's a list of actual American Ales you can get in New Orleans to drink while watching the Saints head to the Superbowl!

The only thing "American Ale" is good for is beer bonging at frat parties. I'm tried of Bud's gimics and marketing ploys they're uncreative and boring. The most creative beer advertisments come from Corona - the commercials and billboards that just have a beach setting and people enjoying a beer is the best campaign I've seen thus far. Simplicity at its best.

Although this Guinness commerical could be the best beer ad EVER (not family friendly): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrSSSfYE2dQ

Reminds me of the time they launched "Pacific Ridge" Pale Ale, while I was in brewing school. It was a test project to see if they could beat out "Sierra Nevada" Pale Ale. Even had a green label and a slightly different flowing stream in the logo. Wan't even close to Sierra Nevada though. Best Bud I've tried was straight from a conditioning tank in Fairfield before they water it down for botling. They brew it higher strength to save space, since they have over a million dollars worth brewing all the time! Can't bash them too badly as I had a Bud last night...
